By the time Samantha Nutt's soup, salad, and Diet Pepsi were on the table at a central Toronto wine bar, she was well into a discussion that would put anyone but the most battle-hardened off their food. Nutt, who is a Toronto-based family physician and founder of the Canadian humanitarian group Warchild, was describing the many poorly conducted amputations she'd encountered on a trip to Haiti in late February. As the emergency medical teams that rushed in after the earthquake now pack up and leave, Nutt says, the sick and the injured are being left to mostly fend for themselves. "Literally hundreds of organisations showed up to help after the earthquake. But they don't seem to be talking to each other and they aren't plugged into any broader humanitarian effort", Nutt said heatedly. "Fewer than 25% ofthem will still be there 6 months from now."
