Inequalities in the American health-care system.

The societal architecture that supports the large inequalities in access to health care by race, income, class, sex, and geography in the USA seems poised for change. The new administration has proposed a USDollars 634 billion downpayment on a Dollars 1 trillion healthcare reform package aimed at achieving universal health care. Congress has been assigned the task of working out the details of this proposal in the coming months. Given the severity of the economic crisis, mounting and unpredictable deficits, powerful interest lobbies, and other competing social agendas, success will not come easily.
