In August, 2007, a 75-year-old man suddenly lost consciousness, and was brought by ambulance to the emergency department at our hospital. He had a history of angina and hypertension; in 2003, he had had an intracerebral haemorrhage, in the left frontotemporal region: he had mild persistent expressive aphasia. However, according to his wife, he had been well until2 h before she called the ambulance, he took, for the first time, his new medicine: "a white tablet". On the previous day, he had gone to a local hospital, having been hiccupping non-stop for 4 days, and had been prescribed clonazepam, in 1 mg tablets. His other medications were valsartan and amlodipine.
