Antipsychotics in individuals with intellectual disability.

Peter Tyrer and colleagues1 improve current knowledge on the use of anti-psychotic drugs to treat aggressive behaviour in intellectually disabled adults. One of the most problematic concerns in the treatment of such individuals isobtaining valid informed consent.2 In Tyrer and colleagues' trial, informed consent was obtained "on the basis of information that was understandable to the individuals concerned", but no procedure to assess patients' capacity to consent is described.
