THE AVAILABILITY AND USES OF COTTON STATISTICS IN GREECE

Cotton covers more than 40% of the irrigated land in Greece, and domestic production is used by the local textile industry and the surplus is exported. The Hellenic Cotton Board (HCB) is a state service, under the Ministry of Agriculture, responsiblefor cotton production, research, planting seed and variety certification, lint classification, application of EU regulations, trade, textile testing, research and quality control on fibers, seeds, yarn, fabric, garments and accessories. The HCB advises the Ministry of Agriculture on matters related to cotton policy.
