Re: Epidemiological trends in pediatric urolithiasis. Editorial comment.

The authors have nicely shown that increasing numbers of pediatric stone cases, such as those reported in the lay press and from single institutions, are indeed being seen in this collection of freestanding pediatric hospitals. The change in total number of stone cases (from 125 to 1,369) is misleading due to increasing hospital participation in PHIS and, thus, large increases in total patients during this 10-year period. However, there was still an impressive increase in urolithiasis diagnoses of 10.6% annually when corrected for hospital volume.
