Ferrochrome

Spot prices of high carbon ferrochrome increased in most regions in February, thanks to a clear improvement in demand from the stainless steel sector and continued cutbacks by South African producers. The increases in European and US spot prices are the first in nine months and are a welcome development for ferrochrome producers who had seen spot prices decline by up to 25 cents/lb in this period. South African producers in particular will now be hoping that market conditions continue to improve as they prepare for the second quarter contract negotiations later this month.
