Sharp Rise in Paraxylene Prices in October 2010

Crude oil prices increased 5 - 7% in October 2010 from their September levels. The WTI spot surged 8% averaging US$ 81.21 per barrel while the European Brent gained 6% at US$ 82.24 per barrel. As compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, oil was dearer by 13%. The Asian basket averaged US$ 80.70 per barrel, up 6% from previous month. Similarly, naphtha prices too increased 9% to US$ 748 per ton CFR Japan, up 30% compared to previous year.
