DOW CHEMICAL has announced plans to carve out a large part of its chlorine chemicals business, which it estimates is worth around US$5bn. The sale includes around 40 manufacturing facilities at 11 sites, such as chlor-alkali and chlor-vinyl plants in Plaquemine, Louisiana and Freeport, Texas, US; chlorinated organics production facilities in Freeport, Plaquemine, and Stade in Germany; and the company's global epoxy business, which includes assets in the US, Germany, Italy, South Korea and Brazil. The sites employ around 2,000 people.
