Plastic slash the weight of sports broadcast editing system

That designers and developers champion the part plastics can play in the production of new devices and new products will be music to the industry's ears. International product design and development company Industrial Design Consultancy (IDC), has worked with UK broadcast technology company Quanlel to replace metal with plastics and create a futuristic new control panel for the firm's LiveTouch studio sports editing system. Work started on the device at the back end of 2013 and four prototypes were produced through 3D printing technology stereolithography (SLA). As part of the initial design parameters, IDC was given an envelope of dimensions within which they had to design the product. It was important that the new product fit a certain footprint as potentially it could directly replace other competitor products that were currently being used.
