Semi-soft coking coal settles at last, in line with expectations

One striking area of export decline has been semi-soft shipments from New South Wales via Newcastle, which reached their 2010 low point in September at just over 1m tonnes. This owes less to the weather than to continued weak fundamentals, which have resulted in a semi-soft coking coal settlement for Q4 of 143 dollars/t fob, a price that is 29 dollars/t (17%) lower than the previous quarter.
