BHP Billiton H2 met coal output hits record 22 million mt

London—BHP Billiton achieved record metallurgical coal production of 21.7 million mt in the six months ended December 31, up 22% year on year, led by record production and sales volumes from its Queensland Coal division. The company said in its operational review for the sixmonth period that the division produced 18.4 million mt of coal, with record production at the South Walker Creek, Saraji and Poitrel assets due to productivity initiatives. The record Queensland production was offset by the Illawarra Coal division producing 3.4 million mt, 13% less coal on the year owing to an extended outage at the Dendrobium mine and a scheduled longwall move at West Cliff in the quarter ended September 30.
