Israeli committee calls for rethink on Hadera plant coal-to-gas switch

An Israeli government-appointed electricitysector reform committee has recommended that a plan toconvert Israel Electric Corp.’s 2,590 MW coal-fired Haderaplant to gas and to install scrubbers at the state-ownedgenerator’s coal plants be reconsidered on grounds of cost.The long-awaited report by the committee headed byIsrael State Owned Corporations Authority director Ori Yogevsaid the high cost of switching Hadera — Israel’s largestpower plant — from coal to gas should be looked at againbefore a final decision is taken.
