CIF ARA prices touch record lows amid oversupply, slowing buying demand

London—Spot European-delivered thermal coal prices touched a new low Monday following three sub-$80/mt physical spot trades, as ongoing oversupply and a lack of buying urgency from European utilities continue to weigh down the market, sources said. Platts assessed the price of CIF ARA thermal coal basis 6,000 kcal/kg NAR and for delivery within the next 15-60 days, June 18-August 1, at $77.40/mt, dropping $1.25 on-day and reaching its lowest level since the 15-60 day delivery window was first assessed on March 1.
