After years of deliberation, the Indian government has finally started the process of auctioning coal blocks to private companies through competitive bidding. In a notification issued February 3, the coal ministry made the new process public. According to the process rules, the ministry will identify areas for allocation through auction and will also fix a floor price for these areas and invite offers. Private companies will have to submit their offers in two parts: technical bids and commercial bids.
