Singapore - Higher ash Australian thermal coal prices stabilized Thursday as traders said the freight cost of moving the commodity to China, the region's largest spot buyer, had fallen substantially, luring buyers back to the market. The price of Australian 5,500 kcal/kg NAR thermal coal with typical 20% ash content was assessed at $71/mt FOB Newcastle, unchanged from Wednesday and still at its lowest level since early August. The ash differential was also unchanged at 60 cents/mt per 1% ash content.
