Import pricing for polyvinyl chloride opened the year on a downward trend and with fresh record lows in key South American markets amid continued weakness in demand globally. In Peru, import pricing fell $20/mt since December 16, 2015, assessed Wednesday at $660-$670/ mt CFR basis on the back of competitive offers out of the US, where export prices hit 80-month lows. In Brazil, prices dropped $15/mt for the period, assessed at $705-$715/mt CFR basis, with material from Asia talked the most competitive, sources said. Platts suspended weekly Americas assessments for the final two weeks of 2015 in observance of end-of-year holidays.
