Turkish polystyrene prices were stable Wednesday from the previous assessment made on December 16. General purpose PS was assessed at $1,130/mt CFR Turkey. GPPS offers into Turkey were heard in a range of $1,160-1,200/mt CFR but traders complained of a lack of demand. High impact PS offers into Turkey were heard in the range $1,190-1,260/ mt CFR but the offers at $1,190/mt CFR were heard to be limited. In Asia, from where Turkey imports a major share of its HIPS requirements, the product’s price was assessed at $1,110/mt CFR China, up $20 on the week. GPPS prices in Asia were assessed at $1,080/mt CFR, up $10 from the previous assessment. Demand in both the Turkish and North African markets was seen as weak even as supplies were ample. Several offers were heard into the Turkish markets this week from sources as wide as South Korea, Malaysia and Iran. “Iranian cargoes are being offered only to end-consumers,” a trader noted. Turkey’s polystyrene imports in January-November increased 1.8% on the year to 240,621 mt, according to the latest data published by Turkstat. The top two exporters to Turkey were Belgium and South Korea, according to the data. A year earlier, the top two suppliers were Belgium and Egypt.
