Asia pulls NWE PX below $600/mt for first time since 2009

London -Weak Asian prices have dragged the Northwest European paraxylene spot price below $600/mt for the first time since 2009, according to Platts data. The NWE spot price was assessed at $598/ mt FOB ARA on Monday and at $597.50/mt FOB ARA on Wednesday. The last time the spot price fell below $600/mt was January 6, 2009. Low NWE prices have been attributed to falling Asian prices. “PX is very depressed again in Asia. Crude is down further,” a source said Wednesday, referring to somber European prices. In Asia, the H1 March CFR Taiwan/China price was assessed at $686/mt Wednesday, down $12, as crude trended downward.
