The import assessment for low-density polyethylene in Peru fell $20/ mt from December 16, 2015 to $1,175-$1,185/mt CFR basis Wednesday, dragged by competitive offers for US-origin material, sources said. Offers for US resin were heard in the $1,200-$1,250/mt range. Meanwhile, Asia-origin offers were heard stable on the week at $1,200-$1,240/mt range with deliveries expected in mid-to late February. Still, despite competitive offers from various regions, market players said activity in Peru and the region was sluggish as some participants were still out on holiday. The dip in demand continued where 2015 left off as buyers were heard hitting the sidelines in part to await potentially lower-priced resin. “Asia-origin material is too high and I wouldn’t be able to move it at those levels,” a US-based trader said, adding that the US was tightening. In Brazil, the LDPE import assessment was stable for the period at $1,195-$1,205/mt CFR basis amid thin market activity, sources said.
