European low density polyethylene prices remained flat this week, with spot traders hesitant on bearish price expectation. LDPE spot prices closed Wednesday at Eur1,600/mt. One trader said that the bearish price expectation were a consequence of supply coming back onstream. In the contract market, prices were assessed higher this week, closing Wednesday at Eur1,640/mt. Prices were assessed up on continued tightness in product. “The magnitude of imports is not enough to relieve the pressure in the market.” a producer said. In other news, EU imports of polyethylene in the first quarter fell by 18% on the year to 497,818 mt, the most recent Eurostat data showed. Imports of PP rose over the same period by 21%, to 206,304 mt. Further breakdown shows that high density polyethylene imports fell 26% over the same period, to 219,532 mt.
