June US domestic polystyrene contracts remained unsettled this week but were expected to fall by 3-5 cents as sellers announced decreases at those levels, sources said. The expectations for a decrease came as the June US benzene contract price fell 59 cents/gal from May to settle at 225 cents/gal. Per industry feedback, a 10 cents/gal change in benzene prices is equal to a 1 cent/lb change in styrene and polystyrene production costs. Benzene spot prices have rebounded since the June settlement, assessed Wednesday at 268 cents/gal FOB USG. Feedstock styrene prices also rose 0.75 cent this week, assessed Wednesday at 57.75 cents, tracking higher global styrene spot prices, sources said.
