Asian MEG prices climbed sharply by $55/mt week on week to be assessed at $793/mt CFR China and $796/mt CFR Southeast Asia on Friday amid bullish MEG futures, a rebound in crude and significant improvement seen in downstream polyester demand. Operating rates at PET plants across China, Taiwan, South Korea, as well as Southeast Asia were reported above 80%, with several producers running their units above 90% of capacity due to better production margins, said sources.
