The mixed xylene premium over gasoline was assessed at $96/mt Friday, unchanged from Thursday. The premium has been rising during the week and was assessed $14/mt higher on the week. There was MX demand, but the market remained free of offers, according to a source. The MX price was assessed at $766.50/mt FOB ARA, down $0.50/mt from Thursday, but $1/mt up on the week. It tracked modest declines in gasoline swap prices. The orthoxylene price was assessed at $818/mt FOB ARA Friday, declining $2/mt from Thursday, and down $5/mt on the week. There was a trade of OX at $820/mt Thursday, but no bids or offers were heard in the market Friday. Platts heard that Atmosa’s 500,000 mt/year phthalic anhydride plant in Schwechat, Austria, began production after declaring force majeure at the beginning of the month due to orthoxylene contamination.
