Paraxylene spot prices in Europe fell $9/mt on the day but rose $22/mt week-on-week to $851/mt as a firmer energy complex underpinned firmer prices for product delivered into Asia, which in turn hauled up European prices. The June European contract price rolled over this week, unchanged from May at Eur880/mt, equating to just under $990/mt and leaving spot prices at a 15% discount to the CP. Sources said, however, there was very little spot supply in what was a quiet week in Europe due to a quarterly gathering of market participants in both aromatics and olefins in Greece. Sources did speculate, however, that demand for material may pick up as Artlant restarts its Sines PTA plant in Portugal in September.
