US spot ethylene prices recovered 2.50 cents week on week, assessed Friday at 52-52.50 cts/lb FOB USG, as production upsets pushed prices up throughout the week, according to sources. Ineos suffered an equipment failure at its steam cracker No. 2 at its Chocolate Bayou Olefins plant in Alvin, Texas, market sources said Tuesday. The unscheduled turnaround at the 544,000 mt/year plant started Monday and resulted in the company declaring a force majeure on ethylene supplies.
