Producers lowered their domestic pricing by 2 cents for July, sources said. This decline in pricing was in line with expectations as market participants had anticipated a 2-3 cents decrease from June for US general-purpose polystyrene and high-impact polystyrene. Sources have said that a rebound in prices for August is possible given higher feedstock styrene prices during July. Styrene moved 0.10 cent higher on the week, assessed Wednesday at 77.10 cents/lb FOB USG tracking higher prices in Asia. Arbitrage opportunities remain available to Europe and Asia, sources said, adding that Asia was currently the better netback. Styrene spot market supply was described as tight. Polystyrene prices could also increase in August after a higher benzene contract price settlement at 417 cents/gal for August, an increase of 10 cents from July.
