US spot ethylene was was half-cent lower week on week, to be assessed Friday at 53.75-54.25 cents/lb FD USG, as a brief production outage failed to rattle market participants. The 300,000 mt/year Sweeny #22 steam cracker at Chevron Phillips Chemical’s plant olefins plant in Old Ocean, Texas, went offline Saturday, the company has told state regulators. The disruption in production was due to the loss of the gas-fired turbine/propylene compressor, the company said in its filing Saturday with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
