European February LDPE contracts continue to reach a rollover outcome as gross values mostly settled at Eur1,485- 1,520/mt FD NWE range, market sources reported. Despite pronounced strength in the upstream energy complex, producers admitted that earlier hopes of price increases had not been realized. As attempts to recover dents in polyethylene margins were mostly hampered by modest underlying demand, producers maintained reduced plant utilization rates and continued to cautiously manage inventories into March. With the exception of 4.0 MFI extrusion coating grades, there were no constraints in LDPE availability. Earlier this month, some producers were heard negotiating spot deals outside of the regular contractual framework, in order to rebalance some stocks.
