The US acrylonitrile export assessment dropped $110/ mt to $1,830/mt FOB USG Tuesday on lower feedstock propylene and a lower offer. An offer was heard at $1,840/mt FOB USG, against no bids. No deals were reported to Platts by time of publication. A trader talked the market as low as $1,800/mt FOB USG. Sources said ACN prices could continue to fall as propylene contract prices are expected to be lower in April. The March US propylene contract price settled 6 cents lower than February at 73 cents/lb for PGP and 71.5 cents/lb for CGP. Sources said break-even costs for ACN were at least $2,000/mt following the drop in the propylene contract.
