US spot ethylene climbed 2 cents/lb week on week, assessed Friday at a 10-week high of 50-50.50 cents/lb FD USG, on the back of a production issue in the US Gulf Coast, sources said. The assessment was the highest since May 29, when it was at 52.25 cents/lb FD USG. Spot ethylene began to climb Monday on news that producer Flint Hills Resources had delayed the restart of its 617,000 mt/year steam cracker in Port Arthur, Texas, because of a new found leak. Sources said Flint Hills was seen in the spot market as a buyer as it dealt with the extended outage. Confirmation from the company was not available.
