UK producers bemoan Scottish ban on shale fracking

London-UK oil and gas industry lobby group UKOOG has expressed its disappointment at a vote in the Scottish Parliament Wednesday calling for an outright ban on hydraulic fracturing-or fracking-in Scotland. The Parliament narrowly voted in favor of a ban on the technique for recovering shale gas in Scotland where a moratorium was introduced in January 2015. Although not binding, the ruling SNP will likely have to put the ban into law even though up to now it has only supported a moratorium. UKOOG, which represents the UK onshore oil and gas industry, said it was “disappointed” at the vote.
