St Petersburg-Russia and Kazakhstan announced Friday an ambitious plan to push for removing economic barriers and greater cooperation regionally to reduce their dependency on Western oilfield technology as they look to develop new upstream projects amid stubbornly weak oil prices. Speaking to the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, President Vladimir Putin criticized attempts “to monopolize” technology and set up restricted economic unions that prevent exchange of technologies and scientific innovations.
