UK field shutdown bodes ill for industry

London-Independent Fairfield Energy has said it plans to shut down the Dunlin cluster of UK oil fields, in part due to falling oil pric- es, illustrating the challenge the country faces in arresting North Sea decline. Fairfield said Monday it would stop produc- tion in mid-June from all of the fields in the cluster-Dunlin, Dunlin South West, Merlin and Osprey.
