North Dakota weighs policy to limit Bakken supply

Washington—North Dakota is considering a novel policy change that would, for the first time, factor a producer’s economic hardship into decisions on when they must start producing from a drilled well. The change comes as the number of drilled but uncompleted wells in the Bakken continues to shatter records and an estimated 500 already drilled wells run into oneyear deadlines to be completed or, potentially, abandoned by operators.
