US airlines ‘refleeting’ to cut jet fuel costs

Houston—US airlines saw savings soar in the first quarter of 2014, as lower fuel costs combined with refleeting to allow many airlines to shake off record-high weather cancellations and turn a profit. CEO B. Ben Baldanza of Spirit Airlines said in a recent earnings call that his lowcost carrier has been helped by capacity cuts across the market.
