Statoil extends mothballing of three drilling rigs

London-Norway’s Statoil said Friday it was extending the suspension of three rigs moth- balled in the past two months as it reins in activity amid disappointing exploration drilling results and high costs. The COSL Pioneer, Scarabeo 5 and Songa Trym were initially slated to be mothballed until the end of the year, but will now remain out of action into next year, with the COSL Pio- neer suspended for another 7-1/2 months.
