Tokyo—Japan was a net importer of gasoline for the second consecutive month in July amid expectations of seasonally higher summer demand following big cuts to the country’s refining capacity that were finalized at the end of March. However, gross imports of 33,078 b/d in July, although 31% up from year-ago levels, were down 43.2% from June, while gross exports surged 88.6% from 12,172 b/d in June, to average 22,957 b/d in July, up 44% from a year ago, an analysis of data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry data showed Monday.
