More tests needed for Bakken crude: CEO

Bismarck—More testing is needed before any decisions can be made to remove volatile elements from Bakken crude prior to shipment by rail, Oasis Petroleum CEO Tommy Nusz said Thursday. Nusz, speaking to reporters at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference, cited a study released this week by the North Dakota Petroleum Council that found Bakken crude is consistent throughout the basin, is similar to other light sweet crudes and does not pose a greater risk to transport by rail than other fuels.
