Oryx makes new Kurdistan oil discovery

London—Canada’s Oryx Petroleum announced Wednesday a third oil discovery at its Hawler license in Iraqi Kurdistan, noting that the find is expected to be “substantially larger” than pre-drill estimates. The ZEG-1 well on the Zey Gawra prospect flow tested at an average rate of 4,800 b/d of light crude oil from an 81 meter column, the company said. Oryx Petroleum is the operator of the Hawler license area with a 65% participating and working interest stake. “Hawler is proving to be a prolific license area. We are very pleased to have made our third consecutive oil discovery there this year achieving excellent flow rates of high quality crude,” Oryx chief operating officer Henry Legarre said in a statement.
