Sydney—BHP Billiton has received a key approval for the drilling of a first ultra deepwater exploration well offshore Palawan in the Philippines, the Anglo-Australian resource giant’s joint venture partner Otto Energy said Wednesday. The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development has given its formal strategic environmental plan clearance for the drilling of the Cinco-1 well in SC55, Otto said.
