Dubai cracking margin negative after 17 months

Singapore—The Dubai cracking margin turned negative for the first time since March 2012 amid weakness in fuel oil cracks and rising crude oil prices, Platts assessments showed Wednesday. The Dubai cracking margin was assessed at minus 5 cents/barrel Wednesday, down 29 cents/b from Tuesday. The cracking margin was last in negative territory March 13, 2012, at minus 9 cents/b. Cracking margins are the yields refiners earn from refining crude oil and crude oil residues through a cracking process.
