Barents Sea reserves boost Norwegian total by 15%

London—Norway raised its estimate of undiscovered oil and gas reserves by 15%, with most of the additional 2.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent in the Barents Sea. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said on February 27 that its mapping of the southeastern Barents Sea and the area surrounding Jan Mayen, a volcanic island in the Arctic, “will result in an approximate increase of 15% in the estimates of undiscovered resources on the Norwegian shelf.”
