East Africa facing oil export dilemma

London—The timing of oil exports from two of East Africa’s newest oil players, Uganda and Kenya, faces serious challenges over a regional agreement on the route of a multi billion-dollar pipeline to the Indian Ocean, participants at an conference in London heard Wednesday. The option of a $3.5 billion pipeline linking oil fields operated by CNOOC, Total and Tullow Oil in Uganda’s Lake Albert via a northern route across Kenya is already the preferred option by Uganda and its oil partners, the East African Oil & Gas conference heard.
