Petrobras looks to lease, not buy, more FPSOs

Rio de Janeiro—Petrobras will move to leasing FPSOs from buying them outright over the next 3-4 years, a leading industry executive said Thursday. “We believe they will have a ratio of between 60-65% lease and the rest on key [turn-key, or outright purchase] for the next 3-4 years,” said Philippe Levy, Brazil country manager for SBM Offshore on the sidelines of the OTC Brasil conference in Rio de Janeiro. “It’s a big change from the previous years; it was really 80-20, 80% turn-key, 20% lease, in Brazil.”
