Houston—Colombia’s Ecopetrol is finishing updrilling of its first shale well in that country’sMiddle Magdalena Valley, Enrique Velasquez,the company’s vice president of exploration,said March 6.During an interview on the sidelines of the31st annual CERAWeek, an industry gatheringhosted by consulting firm IHS CERA, Velas-quez said the company does not even know ifthe La Luna No. 1 well contained oil or naturalgas, because Colombian shale formations arethought to hold both. He said core samplesfrom the well have been sent to a lab for fur-ther evaluation.
