Canadian study backs Kitimat LNG plan’s economics

Vancouver—A joint industry-government study estimates Canada’s lead-off LNG export project could deliver netbacks of C$5-C$7 ($5.07- $7.09)/Mcf to producers of stranded gas in British Columbia’s Horn River Basin, giving an added lift to the Canadian province’s hopes of C$20 billion investment in LNG ventures over the next eight years. The Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI), financed by the Canadian and Alberta governments and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, said August 15 that in addition to the potential netbacks, the Kitimat project could also contribute C$1.16 trillion to Canada’s Gross Domestic Product for the 2010-2035 period, with British Columbia capturing C$1.15 trillion of the GDP, plus C$39.4 billion in employee compensation and C$36.8 billion in tax revenues.
