Bogota—Colombia’s recent road show to promote an upcoming bid round stirred up intense interest in its offshore and unconventional oil and gas prospects but also concerns over security, permit delays, ongoing community protests and the still-undefined social obligations that oil explorers must meet, a top government official told Platts this week. Orlando Cabrales, director of the National Hydrocarbons Agency, said his recently completed 10-city tour elicited unexpectedly high levels of interest among oil explorers and developers, particularly those interested in 31 blocks offered with potential reserves of coal or shale associated oil and gas: the Middle and Upper Magdalena River valleys, the Cundicamarca region and the Catatumbo area near the Venezuelan border.
