Kiev—The Ukrainian Parliament approved April13 a bill allowing the division of state-ownedoil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrayiny intoseparate entities, but banned the privatizationof its gas pipeline network amid fears a sell-off of the country’s most strategic asset wasunder consideration in Kiev.The bill opens the door for Naftogaz to berestructured into gas shipping, gas producingand gas distributing companies.It is a compromise after oppositiongroups vehemently protested the govern-ment’s plan to restructure Naftogaz with thepossibility of selling its pipeline infrastruc-ture, which moves 80% of Russia’s Euro-pean gas exports.
