Houston-ExxonMobil coupled its April 28 announcement of $10.7 billion in first-quarter earnings with a press conference defending its payment of US taxes and criticizing government leaders for political attacks against the industry. "It's time for our leaders to stop playing politics with the energy industry and to start working for solutions that will take the pressure off household budgets and enhance our energy security," said Ken Cohen, vice president of public and government affairs, during a politically charged press conference following release of the company's results.
